Worship is about God. Not people.
Worship is focused on God’s character, God’s accomplishments from creation to redemption, from revelation to eternity future, and to hear God’s Word.
Worship is only for believers in Christ. Others can observe, but the service of worship is to help Christians to honor and ascribe love and worth to God. It is not primarily evangelistic in focus.
The sanctuary is a place to come apart, to be with God and to separate ourselves from the world. We worship God and then we return to the world to be “in the world, not of it.”
Worship is created from the Word of God. The Word is our Manual for Worship.
Worship is an active and focusing experience.
Worship is not passive. It is not watching others worship God.
Worship engages the heart, the mind, the soul, and the strength of the person who is coming into the presence of God with his people.
Worship is instructional. God’s people should learn about God. They learn about God from his Holy Word. Therefore, in worship, the Word should be read for God’s people and listened to by God’s people.
Worship is centered upon the proclamation of the Word of God. The exposition of the Word of God in teaching is a central element to the worship of God. A message is to be formed from a study of the Word of God, and should be profitable for correction of those who hear, and it should bring God’s people to maturity in the faith. The pastor who preaches, preaches first to himself.
Worship can be a simple experience: Praising God, Singing songs to God, Celebrating the Gospel of Christ, Confessing our sins corporately and privately, and Hearing the Word of God and taking it into our lives.
Worship is not about place, computers, amplifiers, or ambiance created in a room. Worship can happen in a simple place with few additions and without any technology.
Worship is measured by the faith of God’s people, their love for God, and their desire to praise and glorify God together in their lives and, when they are together, in worship.
Worship begins with God, it focuses on God, and it concludes when God’s people are moved by all they know about God, to bring glory to him, as much as is humanly possible.
